IJA-Canada Ranking Calculations
Back to the ranking page...
Ranking Calculation Explained:
-
Tournament Points (this is the easy one):
- Competitors are given the inverse number of points to the number of competitors.
- Example: If there are three competitors, 1st place gets 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 points, 3rd place gets 1 point.
- Example: If there are four competitors, 1st place gets 4 points, 2nd place gets 3 points, 3rd place gets 2 points, 4th place gets 1 point.
- Example: If there are "n" competitors, 1st place gets "n" points, 2nd place gets "n-1" points, etc, last place gets 1 point.
- (High is good.)
- These points are cumulative.
-
Placement Bonus (this is the compex one):
- Placements are averaged.
- Example: If a competitor comes 1st in one tournament, his average is 1.
- Example: If a competitor comes 1st in one tournament and 2nd in a second tournament, her average is 1.5.
- Example: If a competitor comes 1st in one tournament, 2nd in a second tournament and 3rd in a third tournament, his average is 2.
- (Low is good.)
- To calculate the bonus, this average placement is inversed and multiplied by the number of tournaments.
- Example: As above, a competitor comes 1st in one tournament. The average is inversed (1/1) and multiplied by the number of tournaments (1) for a bonus of 1.
- Example: As above, a competitor comes 1st in one tournament and 2nd in a second tournament. The average is inversed (1/1.5) and multiplied by the number of tournaments (2) for a bonus of 1.33.
- Example: As above, a competitor comes 1st in one tournament, 2nd in a second tournament, 3rd in a third tournament. The average is inversed (1/2) and multiplied by the number of tournaments (3) for a bonus of 1.5.
- (High is good.)
- Total Points:
- Add the tournament points and the placement bonus, and you have total points.
